5th India Film Festival of Alberta
The Annual India Film Festival of Alberta (IFFA – 2019) is taking place in Edmonton from June 7 – June 9. Over the three days, 10 films in 7 languages will be played at the Metro Cinema. Bigger and better than ever before, the festival is in its 5th year and will feature Twenty Films in eight different languages, including English, from all parts of India as well as Canada.
The festival will span across ten cities in Canada, with the addition of Regina, Winnipeg and Grande Prairie to last year’s list which included Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Fort McMurray, Lethbridge, Montreal and Toronto.
IFFA 2019, is going to witness the world premiere of Malayalam language feature film ‘And the Oscar Goes to’, which was shot in Edmonton in September 2018. This film was directed by Salim Ahamed who was an invited guest at IFFA 2016. This screening will also be attended by the director and the producer and the entire cast and crew from Edmonton.

IFFA will also feature a film series in Calgary and Edmonton on LGBTQ2+ community. In celebration of the Edmonton Pride Week, this film series will showcase Abu and Nagarkirtan. Both films will be followed by panel discussions.
Like each year, this year’s focus state will be Kerala. There are one short film and two feature films from Kerala. The Red Carpet event will showcase Malayalam culture and tradition in terms of decor, food and programs
